Fairfax Academy Students Enjoy Career Experiences in New York City
Students in five Fairfax Academy classes (fashion careers, professional photography, social media marketing, Arabic, and dance) attended the academy’s annual trip to New York City and participated in a full itinerary of career experiences related to their individual curricula. Professional photography and social media marketing classes set up and organized photo shoots using New York City as their backdrop while discussing and analyzing the photography and marketing aspects of the city. The students spent the part of their day at the Museum of Modern Art where they were able to photograph and examine fine art, and then finished the day with more professional photo shoots in areas near Times Square. Fashion careers students spent two days in New York, and dance students stayed for a weekend to participate in master classes at Steps on Broadway, including contemporary, modern, Broadway Jazz, and tap. Fashion careers students experienced a personalized workshop with fashion designer David Lee of Smith+Parka, explored the garment district, and had a presentation by the senior knit designer Annie Lim at MM.LaFleur. Students also toured the campus and museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and then worked on a croquis book assignment while in Central Park.
