Counseling and Support Services
The Academy Counselor assists students with a multitude of services including:
- Assists students with college and career planning, applications, essays, recommendations and financial aid resources.
- Assists students on an individual basis to address and support issues in the areas of social emotional, behavioral and executive functioning skills and crisis counseling.
- Provides multiple service-learning opportunities for Academy students and Academy Ambassadors by organizing participation in career day presentations at elementary and middle schools (i.e. Middle School Career Exploration Day with other academies), recruitment events at FCPS High Schools and academy sponsored events (middle school visits/tours, counselor tours, student panels, Back to School Night, Open House, etc.), academy tours, etc.
- Reviews academic progress/grades and attendance at each interim and quarter for all academy students and works with students, teachers, parents and base school counselors to develop plans for success.
- Collaborates with teachers, students, parents, counselors and the academy administrator to address academic and/or attendance issues and organizes and participates in student and/or parent conferences for academy teachers.
- Organizes annual onsite college visits for Fairfax Academy students targeting performing and visual arts and communication programs with college admissions representatives from sought after colleges/conservatories.
- Works with school counselors to resolve scheduling and transportation issues.
- 504 Plan School Based Coordinator for Fairfax Academy - ensures that students needs and accommodations are being met.
