Happy Fall Fairfax Academy Family!!

What an amazing start to the year we have had with energizing college visits, insightful guest speakers, workshops led by industry professionals, and our first musical theatre cabaret. All of which, of course, is in addition to the hands-on learning that our students participate in every day in classrooms. We have enjoyed getting to know our new Academy students and re-connecting with those who are returning. We also have a newly selected group of Academy Ambassadors that we are eager to start working with on upcoming events.

Even though it is only November, we are thinking about careers and higher education ALL year round. Just this past quarter, we already welcomed Columbia College of Chicago, JMU, VCU, and SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design) into our classes! In addition, Full Sail University sent their ‘Mobile Experience’ to us for two days! And, stay tuned to hear about our Academy Career Experience Expo that our students will attend in February!

We are proud of our Academy faculty & staff, so please take a moment share how proud you (and your student) are too! It will just take a couple minutes of your time to complete a 'GOOD GOBBLE'. Just think what an amazingly thoughtful (and personalized) gift this will be to share with our entire faculty and staff at Fairfax High School and Academy as they depart for Thanksgiving! It really only takes but a minute or two, you can do it more than just once, and this can be completed by both parents and students!

photo teacher award — Fairfax Academy Photography teacher Kevin Smith was October's FCPS Cares winner for Region 5. Nominated by a student, Mr. Smith was recognized for his attention to students, patience and understanding.

full sail university — The amazing 'Full Sail Mobile Experience' was here for two full days, so we couldn't resist sharing this exciting opportunity with the Fairfax High School students!!

Korean embassy — We had the honor of having the Korean Embassy & Naval Officers (from the Cruise Training Task Group) visit, take a tour, and speak to our Korean class. They made a generous monetary donation and also gave the Korean class a large textbook donation.

ambassadors — During 'The Academy Experience' almost 30 FCPS professionals spent time at the Academy. The event began with lunch, prepared by our Korean instructors & followed by an Academy tour with special activities/lessons & an extensive interactive student panel.

Photo Biver workshop — Professional photographer Steven Biver led a workshop for Pro Photo students at as part of a series of mentoring workshops. During his most recent visit, he led a hands-on workshop with level-2 students that focused on lighting and editing.

theatre of the opressed signature theatre musical workshop — We are happy to announce a brand new partnership with Signature Theatre. In October, we hosted student workshops focused on the Theatre of the Oppressed (TO). This popular form of community-based education uses theatre as a tool for social change.
