Revised and New Theatre Arts Academy Offerings for 2018-19

143026 - Musical Theatre Workshop (1 Credit) Grades 10, 11, 12 – No audition required.

Prerequisite: None - Theatre Arts, Chorus, or Dance recommended but not required.

Students will explore performance techniques specific to musical theatre including acting, singing, and movement.  Students will examine classic and contemporary musical theatre styles, structure, and content with an overall emphasis on performance.  Participation in academy-based performances are strongly encouraged and may be required.  For more information, visit the academy web site.

 

143027 - Musical Theatre Workshop (2 Credits) Grades 10, 11, 12 - No audition required.

Prerequisite: None - Theatre Arts, Chorus, or Dance recommended but not required.

Students will enhance performance techniques specific to musical theatre including acting, singing, and dancing.  Students will examine and appraise classic and contemporary musical theatre styles, structure, and content with an overall emphasis on performance.  Participation in academy-based performances are strongly encouraged and may be required.  For more information, visit the academy web site.

 

145027 – Advanced Musical Theatre (2 Credits) Grades 11, 12 – Audition required.

Prerequisite:  143026 (PMTAS level 1 or Musical Theatre Workshop-1cr.) 143027 (Musical Theatre Workshop-2cr.), or teacher recommendation. 

Students will expand and synthesize knowledge and skills in musical theatre performance and content.  Outside class assignments including directing, auditioning for community, regional, and professional theatres, reviewing local performances, and interviewing local theatre professionals will be required.   Collegiate and professional audition portfolios will be developed.   Participation in academy-based performances are strongly encouraged and may be required.  For more information, visit the academy web site.

 

144026 - Acting Methods (1 Credit) Grades 10, 11, 12 - Audition required.

Prerequisite: 143026 (PMTAS level 1 or Musical Theatre Workshop-1cr.), 143027 (Musical Theatre Workshop-2cr.) or equivalent experience accepted. **Focus is on acting methods & techniques and not singing and dancing.

Students will explore performance techniques specific to acting for stage and film including actor preparation, methods, characterization, vocal production, movement, and theatre vocabulary.  Students will examine classic and contemporary theatre styles, structure, and content related to audition techniques and portfolio development.  Participation in academy-based performances are strongly encouraged and may be required.  For more information, visit the academy web site.

 

144027 – Advanced Acting Methods (2 Credits) Grades 11, 12 - Audition required.

Prerequisite: 144026 (PMTAS level 2) or equivalent experience accepted. **Focus is on acting methods & techniques and not singing and dancing.

 Acting Methods; Advanced Acting Methods; & Advanced Musical Theatre Auditions:

The audition will consist of:

1-two minute monologue

1-song, 16-32 bars with music written in your key (you may bring recorded accompaniment)

1-short dance routine will be taught during audition

* Please wear comfortable clothes to move in and no jewelry.
