The Silkroad Ensemble visits with MCT II Classes this week!
Mr. Matthew Carlin’s Music Computer Technology (MCT) II classes had a real treat this past Monday, January 30th, with a visit from ‘The Silkroad Ensemble’ - the artists in residence at George Mason University Center for the Arts. Three members of 'The Silkroad Ensemble' -came to Fairfax Academy for Communications and the Arts, and performed a few of their own original compositions, as well as an improvised composition from an idea a MCT 2 upperclassmen created.
George Mason University’s Fine and Performing Arts team reached out to Mr. Carlin and offered to spread the passion, joy and musical interaction with our Fairfax Academy students. The MCT II students were able to discuss composition in various forms, elements of the music industry, and the versatility of the visiting composers. We had an amazing time with Percussionist Haruka Fujii, Harpist Maeve Gilchrist, and Pipa player Wu Man.
MCT II got to hear incredible compositions, and even some improvisation with mixed conversation about composing, and the music industry. We are thrilled they could spend some time with us and are looking forward to having them again next year!
